Book Review: The Automatic Millionaire

Financial Education

Hey, hey Utah Money Moms! Liz here! I wanted to tell you about one of the books listed on the Utah Money Moms Resource PageThe Automatic Millionaire. I first read this book as a freshman at Utah State and was surprised at how much I liked it! I recently reread the book and wanted to share with you 3 reasons why it’s a good option for anyone looking for a financial boost.

  1. First of all, The Automatic Millionaire (TAM) is easy to read. I’ve read other books about finances and had a hard time understand everything or was so bored I couldn’t keep my eyes open. That is not the case with TAM. The book isn’t long, overly complicated, or (in my opinion) boring. I bet you’ll be surprised at how fast you can get through the book and how much you learn.
  2. Second, TAM is realistic. The idea of this book is to set your personal finances up to be automatic (i.e. a payment into your savings account with each paycheck) or you’re never actually going to get around to it. That is the type of plan I can get behind! No matter how good your intentions are, you will drop the ball at some point. So, if you follow the advice given in TAM you’ll never drop the ball on your finances because it will happen automatically! Just set it up once and you’re done!
  3. Third, I find this book super motivating. Every step of the way the author shows you that you don’t have to make a whole mess of money to become wealthy. In fact, in chapter 2 he says, “How much you earn has almost no bearing on whether or not you can and will build wealth.” He gives real life examples of modest income households retiring early with millions of dollars to their names! Who doesn’t want that? All it takes is some initial set up to get started!

This book is exciting to me because I can do it! You can do it! We can become millionaires, automatically! Taking a few minutes to follow some of the suggestions made in The Automatic Millionaire will give you some giant steps in the right direction. And for me, I’m hoping that direction is an early retirement with plenty of money to travel the world!
Let me know how you like it!
Happy Reading!
